Colour Study.

For a while, my limited experience with colours have bugged me.
Sometimes I "luck out" and eventually find the right colours,
but I still feel like I'm spending too much time on that.

Hence why I've started doing some proper colour studies.
And, who knows, I may even learn something about painting as well!

Here's my fragile and feeble start.

Over all I think it's ok. I learned a lot from and and liked doing it,
but it mainly served me by showing me where my skills are at now.

I didn't actually think I'd call it done at this point, but seeing as it's getting pretty late,
and continuing this after taking a hours long break would kind of be defeating the purpose of
what I intended to be a quick colour study.

Besides, I think continuing from here, I'd only start getting anal retentive about details,
and lose sight of the purpose of it.

So, better to leave it at that and then start something new next time.

A New Project.

A couple of weeks ago I started on a new project.

The focus of this project is to get familiar to TVPaint, learning about the process of making an animation from scratch to finish and to make a visually appealing and well-fleshed out product.

Well, that's the plan at least. So far the project is aimed to be done in a little less than 10 weeks and be a length of 30 seconds.

While I don't feel ready to show most of my things, I do have this:

I hope to have some more interesting things to show within the next few weeks, as the project comes along.

Cheers.

Letter of Intention

Following is my Letter of Intention identical to the one
I delivered physically, with the exception of my phone number
which I have opted to not show on this public website
but is included in the physical copy.

Letter of Intention

For Character Animation Programme.

Portfolio:
http://potlucklines.blogspot.dk/

My name is Mik Løvenbalch Kirchheiner.
I have applied to the Character Animation Programme at TAW thrice before, but it wasn’t until about 2 years ago that I found out what I was trying to get myself into. Following that I knew quite early that I had found my home in Character Animation as well as Character Designing.
I want to create worlds, characters and stories; I want to be there from the conception of the idea until I put the last stroke on the animation of that character; I want to delve into the characters and make them feel real. I want to make people that aren’t real affect people that are.

I have taken a (wonderfully educational) semester at The Drawing Academy, studying under Artem, after which I ended up interning at TRiB (http://trib.dk/) where I helped make and teach a Visual HF class to make animated backgrounds for a musical theatre show in Aarhus.

I helped teach the same Visual HF class a little drawing and After Effects. During my time at TRiB I also helped teach an elementary school class a little stop-motion animation. In the beginning of the Animation Festival in Viborg my good friend Jonas Scott Di Hu and I were hired to run an open flipbook-animation workshop for children, which took place at the local library (and was absolutely awesome!).

I’m proficient with Photoshop, After Effects and a few other programs of the Adobe suite.
I have also played with TVPaint but I still consider myself a beginner at it. Luckily, however, I will begin work on a private 30 second animation project at the Open Workshop (where I made my portfolio) at the 18th of March and for the following 3 months. My hopes are that I will learn about the entire process of making a finished animation product while getting better acquainted with TVPaint.
On a slight side note - I intend to pay the tuition fee through a student loan,
which seems like a very fair deal to me.

My future plans are to become one of the best animators and character designers of my time, in order to realize some amazing characters and stories. I intend to do so by finishing the Bachelor Programme at TAW and then move onto a small studio, where I will learn the ins and outs of the business. Then I hope to move onto a big company (Disney possibly) for a few years, during which I will be sponging as much knowledge and skill as I possibly can from my co-workers. After that I hope to move back to a smaller studio where I can really be hands-on with as much as I can and employ my skills.
If possible I might try to establish my own studio. I would really like to try my
hand at everything – 2D, 3D, Games, everything I can get my hands on.
I think I will always return to 2D animation, however.

I look forward to hearing from you!
